Chan was born in 1936 in Macao.
As a farmer for 30 years,
Chan grew chrysanthemums and roses.
He joined and led many community organizations.

San Jose's main post office on Lundy Avenue has renamed for pioneering Asian civic activists Gordon and Anita Chan. Gordon Chan, who died in 2001, was a role model for Santa Clara County Asian Americans a quarter century ago. Anita Chan, his widow, who was joined at the ceremony by their three daughters, thanked the crowd: "It means so much to my family."
